After 13 years as a professional makeup artist, the most common question I get is: "Why doesn't my foundation look like that?" The answer is almost always the same — it's not the foundation, it's the prep.
Think of your face like a canvas. A painter doesn't apply oils directly to raw wood — they prime it first. Makeup works exactly the same way.
Step 1: Cleanse
Start with a clean face. Oil, dirt, and leftover product from the day before will prevent your makeup from adhering properly. Our Softening Creamy Cleanser removes impurities without stripping your skin's natural moisture barrier — leaving skin soft and ready for the next step.
Step 2: Tone
Toner is the most underrated step in skincare. It balances your skin's pH after cleansing and preps it to better absorb what comes next. Our TONE Botanical Firming Toner also firms and tightens — which means your makeup sits on a smoother surface.
Step 3: Moisturise
Even oily skin needs moisture. Skipping moisturiser tells your skin to produce more oil to compensate — which leads to exactly the shine you were trying to avoid. Apply a lightweight moisturiser and allow it to absorb fully (at least 3-5 minutes) before moving on.
Step 4: Prime
Primer is the bridge between skincare and makeup. It fills pores, smooths texture, and gives your foundation something to grip. Our HD Face Primer creates a flawless matte base that extends makeup wear by hours. Apply a thin, even layer across the face and allow it to set for 1-2 minutes.
Step 5: Apply Your Foundation
Now your skin is ready. You'll notice immediately that your foundation goes on more smoothly, blends more easily, and stays put longer. This is the difference that prep makes.
The golden rule: Never rush your skincare. Give each product time to absorb before layering the next. Those extra 5 minutes in the morning will change everything.
